English for the Community
I teach English for free in my local village.
Why?
When I moved to Thailand in 2019 I was overwhelmed by how kind and welcoming Thai people were, and I knew eventually I would do something to 'give back'.
I never really knew what that would look like though until I started learning Thai.

Talking to Thai people in their own language and listening to their stories I realised there is a huge need for English speaking practice.
Yes they learn English at school, quite extensively too - but there is no real opportunity to practice talking to foreigners and get feedback on their speaking skills.
As well as this, I live in rural Thailand. In villages like the one I live in, there are very minimal work opportunities so a lot of families cannot afford to send their children to school.
Children as young as 13 are often encouraged to stop learning and help their families with agricultural work, rather than attend regular schooling.
There are families that want their children to continue learning, but although the education itself is free, they cannot afford the school uniform, or school bus, petrol, or daily lunch that they would need to pay for.
I feel incredibly lucky that I was born in a country where not only is the school system excellent, and free but we are also encouraged to stay in school until 18 years old before we think about working.
This is something I feel I can help the community with.
If these children can improve their English skills they will have more job opportunities in the future, more University options, perhaps overseas opportunities, and possibly even work from home!
I grew up in a culture where your money, your career is yours and yours alone. But in rural areas of Thailand the family works together to create an income, there is a lot of pressure on children to earn a living to help the family with their daily needs.
We are so lucky in Europe that we do not have this pressure and if I can help a child with their English skills, which in turn helps an entire family, I feel very drawn to do so.
The future...
I have big plans for the future, free English is only the start.
I hope to set up a sponsored University system, provide school supplies and uniform for those who need it, and possibly even set up an internship program so these children have access to opportunities they otherwise wouldn't.
For now everything I am doing is through my own funding, I have to start small in order to achieve the bigger goal.
If you would like to support feel free to contact me, or make a donation below.
For complete transparency, at the moment all donations go directly into my personal account, but I fully intend for this to be a non-profit in the future in which all donations would go to the foundation.
Our short term goal is an air-conditioned classroom and any donations I receive for now will go towards that, or supplies for the lessons. Paper, books, pencils etc.
Thank you for reading! If you cannot support financially, please feel free to follow me on social media - every little helps!

Make a difference
Your donation will go towards offering more opportunities for children who need it, together we can create a more hopeful future for the next generation.
